Head of Accounts - Maternity Cover (12-15 months)

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to cover a period of maternity leave (12-15 months) at our Head office in Kent.  

As the lead in the accounting team, you will be responsible for the day to day financial operations of GForces and its international subsidiary companies, preparing key financial information including statutory accounts, management accounts and financial plans as well as providing financial support to departments, teams and budget holders as appropriate. You will also be responsible for managing the accounts team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.

This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. You will report directly into the CEO and be required to work with Executive Team and Senior Management on a daily basis.  

Essential Skills

      Minimum of five years’ experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area. 

      Qualified to AAT level 4 would be desirable but not essential

      Previous experience of using Sage Line 50

      Previous experience of using Sage Payroll

      Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook)

      Excellent numeracy skills and attention to detail 

      Ability to work under pressure and maintain accuracy

      Ability to prioritise and organise a varying workload 

      Confidence to handle over the telephone and via email

      Strong problem solving and analytical skills

      Experience with multi-currency accounting is desirable

Key Responsibilities

      Management accounts and forecasts

      Sales ledger – invoicing, statements, receipt allocation

      VAT reconciliations and returns (UK and Dubai)

      Bank reconciliations for three companies

      Maintain fixed asset register including depreciation calculations

      Prepayment and accrual calculations

      Year end and Month end accounts

      Loan reconciliations

      Supplier payments

      Monthly ‘work in progress’ calculations and adjustments

      Responding to external and internal accounts queries

      Assisting management where necessary

      Dealing with ad hoc accounts queries

      Assisting with the year end audit

      Payroll and expenses including Dubai 

      National statistics reporting
